You will recall that my goal for this year was to use the knitalong to finish up projects that had been WIPs too long, and from that perspective, I had a fantastic month. The most recent project above (Girdwood mittens) were started in December (intended to be a Christmas present for Eldest, I lost steam when I realized that the finished mittens were more likely to fit me), one -- the Lovikka Mittens, from Folk Mittens -- had been waiting patiently since the very first NaKniMitMo in 2009.
From another, more practical standpoint, the results were mixed. Out of four pairs of finished mittens, only two are wearable right now: my Girdwood Mittens and the Ringos I knit for WB. As beautiful as the Vespergyles are, they're really too big for me.
The Lovikka mittens were a disappointment, too. I worried about whether or not they'd felt in my front loader, but they did ... in fact, they felted so well that they are hopelessly short. I'm not really sure where this project went wrong ... either I didn't knit them long enough, or the yarn (Ironstone Harmony) felted more in length than circumference, or it was neither of those things, and the pattern just didn't require me to knit the darn things long enough in the first place.
Whatever the reason, there is not enough room between the thumb and the tip of the mitten, and they will not make it into rotation. That does not mean that they will go to waste ... having been inspired by the beautiful embroidered mittens made by InglesideBelle (the swirly pink pair won the first-ever Viewer's Choice award after NaKniMitMo '09), I'm planning to use one to practice my abysmal embroidery skills, and the other ....
well. The other has been absconded with by a certain puppy, who has a lot to learn about the rules one must follow when one lives with a knitter.

He's lucky I didn't want that mitten anway.

(that he's cute doesn't hurt, either)
