1. WB's occasional cough and general malaise turned out to be walking pneumonia. One Z-Pak and a course of oral prednisone later, she is back to normal.
Have I mentioned lately how much I hate oral prednisone? Wait, let me be more specific. I don't actually hate oral prednisone per se ... I hate the way WB behaves while on oral prednisone. In the hours after she took her first dose she jumped repeatedly off the back of the sofa, wrestled Leo for his squeaky elephant toy (he won), yelled at her brother for no apparent reason, then crawled into the dog's crate and shut the door.

She has no idea how tempted I was to leave her in there.
2. Speaking of Leo, he's growing up FAST. He weighed 17 pounds when he met our vet three weeks ago, and 25 pounds at yesterday's follow-up appointment.
Housebreaking is going pretty well ... he has very few accidents any more (not coincidentally, most of them occur when I'm not home. The other family members aren't ignoring him, they're just not as attuned to his schedule as I am). I've been sleeping on the family room sofa since he got here so that I could take him outside when Nature placed a middle-of-the-night call, but this is about to end, now that he's slept from 11P-6A for several days in a row.

he is not allowed to spend the night in the bean bag chair.
he thinks this is just mean.
He's been sitting on command since his second day here, and now sits and waits to be given permission to eat at meal time. We're still working on "stay", "down", and coming when called. He and WB have been AT each other lately -- she is used to Duke, who bore all manner of depredations with good-natured resignation. Leo is a whole 'nother kettle of fish ... he's got a sweet temperament, but is still a baby (WITH TEETH). The upshot is that until they are not going to be allowed to be alone with one another until they are both better trained.

Leo says: who did you call "not well trained"?!?
3. I spent several days earlier this week filling out the FAFSA and CSS/College Board Profile. I would feel better about the stress this caused and the amount of time I spent if I thought we would see any measurable benefit from my efforts.
My college financial aid expectations, they are low.
4. In the few bits of knitting time I have been able to grab, I have been working on a pair of Northman Mittens (Ravelry link). I am in LOVE with the pattern, excited about the yarn and colors I chose (Ultra Alpaca in "Redwood Mix" and "Steel Cut Oats") ... but the run of 50 degree days we have been enjoying has sapped my enthusiasm for worsted-weight stranded mittens with alpaca liners.
5. In happier knitting news, my cousin just had a new baby girl. I am happily weighing the drawbacks and benefits of various patterns. When it comes to knitting for little girls, perusing patterns is more than half the fun.
7. We have missed having a dog who can play.

8. I know this picture is out of focus, but I love it.
