Why does doing the right thing have to hurt so much?

In the last week, Duke's quality of life has gone sharply downhill.

We're taking the next few days to love on him and spoil him rotten (guess who's getting his own order of french fries tonight?), and on Saturday we will say goodbye.

How lucky are we to have had this dog in our lives?
