I wanted to. Earlier this year a few friends and I talked about joining forces and going together, but life started to intervene, in the form of major household repairs for two of us, a new baby (due in early September) for another, and hotel rooms available for none, and several months ago I decided that under the circumstances the trip was clearly Not Meant To Be. I resigned myself to missing the festivities this year and set my sights on 2011.
But then our plans to replace the roof were put off until the spring, a sudden hole opened up in the family's over-scheduled calendar (only two children with somewhere to be on Sunday, and it was the same somewhere, for less time than anticipated, so one driver could handle everything ... as long as that driver didn't need a car seat, so perhaps I should take WB? Why not?), and when I
"Why aren't you going to Rhinebeck? You should go," he said.
So I called my neighbor, who is a friend, a knitter, and the mother of an absolutely adorable nine week old girl, and asked if she and her daughter might not want to try a day trip to New York after all. She was game (she'd been game all along, I was the one holding up the show), WB was excited about going on an outing, especially if the baby was coming (she loves the baby), so ....
we went.
We ogled the yarn, we saw friends (but not enough!), we ate fair food, we saw lots of animals ....

(even if some of us weren't entirely sure that petting them was a good idea)
and we had the most wonderful time.

I'm so glad we went.
