Shipping out tomorrow

Because at 26+ weeks pregnant I am no longer capable of carrying a big box without making everyone who sees me gasp in horror, tomorrow I will make Eldest come with me to the post office to fulfill his duties as Official Box Wrangler of Dulaan 2007. (I made this title up, just now, in hopes that it will encourage him to do this chore with grace and good humor. These traits have been sorely lacking in his interactions with his family these days.)

Joining the Meathead Hat in the box are the following:

Baby's Top-Down Sweater
yarn: Idena Twins (#320)
pattern: winged it

Generic Adult Hat
yarn: Idena Twins (#326)
pattern: winged it

Tomten Jacket
pattern: by Elizabeth Zimmerman
yarn: Lamb's Pride (#M-23 "Fuchsia"; and #M-105 "RPM Pink")

(By the way, the night before my emergency shipment from Woodland Woolworks arrived, I found the extra skein of fuschsia that I'd cleverly bought in the first place buried in the WIP zone, so now I have a fair amount of the stuff left over. At least they're both from the same dyelot.)

Magic 28 Socks
pattern: Norma's Magic 28 Socks (note: link is a pdf)
yarn: Lamb's Pride Worsted (#M-155 "Lemon Drop")

Do any of you remember back in September, when I bought 24 fleece blanket kits for Her Ladyship's Girl Scout troop to make for Dulaan? I planned to invite the girls over on a snowy January afternoon for sledding and blanket-making ... but wasn't able to hold the party as planned, because the weather failed to cooperate. I should have realized, of course, that making plans that required a nice, heavy snowfall would pretty much guarantee that we would skate through this winter in only the most figurative sense. This was our fourth winter in Massachusetts, and every other year we've had snow and to spare. This year -- the one year I really wanted snow-- we got next to nothing, and even THAT didn't arrive until late February.

So the party was postponed, and what with one thing and another the project was put off until the final meeting of the year, held last Friday afternoon. The blanket-making was piggybacked onto swimming rather than sledding, but once they heard the Dulaan story the girls were eager to help and started cutting and tying with enthusiasm:

Done: 12 fleece blankets. Time constraints meant that six of the blankets were made by the Girls Scouts, with the remaining 18 blankets diviied between my house and and Lucia's. Her Ladyship and I finished six for this year ... the other three will go into next year's box.

I'm already plotting and planning what to send along with them.
